Ghana Seeks Qatari Support for Islamic Medical School

Accra, Ghana - 13 June, 2025 - Ghana has reached out to Qatar for support in establishing an Islamic Medical School in the Northern Region, which would also serve as a teaching hospital for the University for Development Studies. The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, made the request during a meeting with the Qatari Ambassador to Ghana, Khalid Bin Jabor Al-Mesallam.
The proposed institution is part of Ghana's efforts to expand access to medical education and improve healthcare delivery in the northern parts of the country. The Minister is seeking concessionary financing from the Qatar Education Foundation to support the project.
If you could provide us with friendly concessionary financing to support this initiative, it would greatly benefit the local Muslim community in that area,'' Mr. Iddrisu stated.
The meeting also discussed potential collaboration between Ghana and Qatar in the education sector, including knowledge sharing and educational investment. Ghana is keen on deepening its institutional ties with Qatar, with the Minister expressing interest in participating in the upcoming Global Education Conference in Geneva.
The Qatari Ambassador has expressed interest in exploring collaborative opportunities with Ghana in education, paving the way for potential partnerships between the two countries.
