EXIM Bank Donates GHS450,000 to MahamaCares Program

Accra, Ghana - 13 June, 2025 - In a gesture of goodwill and commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Ghana, the senior management team of Ghana EXIM Bank has donated GHS450,000 to the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares.

This donation, which is the first instalment of a larger commitment, is a voluntary contribution from the bank's management staff.

The MahamaCares program, launched by President John Mahama in April this year, aims to provide financial support for specialist-level treatment of chronic illnesses such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and kidney failure. The program seeks to bridge the gap in healthcare access for vulnerable citizens who cannot afford treatment due to high costs.
According to Sylvester Mensah, Chief Executive of Ghana EXIM Bank and a former head of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the donation is a testament to the bank's commitment to expanding access to healthcare. "The MahamaCares program is a compassionate effort geared towards expanding access to healthcare, and I am proud of the empathy shown by the senior management team here at EXIM," he said.

Following President Mahama's initiative, where he pledged six months of his salary to the Trust Fund, and Vice President Professor Opoku-Agyeman's contribution of four months of her salary, Ghana EXIM Bank's donation is part of a growing list of corporate and individual commitments to support the fund.

Notably, the Ghana Armed Forces has also joined the effort, demonstrating a collective response to the President's appeal for support.
