Ghana Police has become the standard for the rest of us on the continent - Sierra Leonean Minister

Sierra Leone's Minister of Internal Affairs, Major General David Taluvu (rtd), says the Ghana Police Service has set the bar for policing in Africa.

 According to him, other African countries, particularly Sierra Leone, are eager to learn from the innovation and practical leadership that has driven the police service's change in recent years.

Addressing a group of senior police officer at the Police headquarters on Monday, August 12, 2024, the minister pointed out that he and his team, which includes Sierra Leone's IGP, William Fayia Sellu, Deputy Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay, and other top officials are in the country to exchange notes with their Ghanaian counterparts. 

“Everyone on the continent testifies to the high standards of the Ghana Police Service under your leadership. The Ghana Police Service has become the standard for the rest of us on the continent,” the Minister said.

"We marvel at how the Ghana Police has successfully transformed from a force into a service that has effectively integrated itself among the citizenry”, he added.

Ghana's IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare in his part, welcomed the delegation and expressed excitement about the visit, highlighting the importance of cooperation among security agencies on the continent.

He stated that the Ghana Police Service wants to win the hearts and minds of the people by serving.

According to him, scaled-up intelligence-led operations,  increased visibility and initiatives like 'Snatch Them Young Policing' are but a few measures beng used by the police service to ensure the safety of the people.
