Interior Minister Declares War on VIP Privileges: No More Unofficial Police Bodyguards
Accra, Ghana – 23 July, 2025 – In a bid to maintain neutrality and professionalism within the Ghana Police Service, Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has warned celebrities, business tycoons, and politicians that their days of using police officers as personal bodyguards without official clearance are over.
Speaking at the 17th Regional Police Commanders Conference in Accra, Muntaka revealed that he has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct a thorough audit of all VIP protection arrangements nationwide and enforce strict compliance with regulations.
Muntaka emphasized that any breaches of the regulations will attract sanctions, ensuring accountability and adherence to the law and also mentioned the importance of the Ghana Police Service remaining neutral and professional, particularly in the lead-up to the 2028 elections.
This move aims to promote transparency and accountability within the police service, aligning with Muntaka's vision for a more disciplined and professional law enforcement agency.
