EC reaffirms commitment to fair Elections amid NDC concerns

Accra, Ghana - The Electoral Commission (EC) has reiterated its commitment to producing a robust and reliable voters register for the December 7 general elections.

This follows the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) "Enough is Enough" protest on September 17.

In a statement, EC Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey acknowledged the commission's critical role in ensuring a credible electoral process.

He emphasized that the voters register is still in its early stages of development.

The EC reaffirmed its dedication to delivering a trustworthy voters register, recognizing it as the foundation of fair and transparent elections.

"The Commission is mindful that the Voters Register is the bedrock of credible, fair and transparent Elections. We assure the NDC and all Stakeholders of our avowed commitment to delivering a credible and robust Final Register ahead of the December 2024 Elections," the statement read.

The move aims to alleviate concerns raised by the NDC, which demanded a forensic audit over alleged discrepancies in the provisional voters register.

The NDC claims to have uncovered over 243,000 illegal names on the transferred list, sparking the protest.

The EC's assurance comes as Ghana prepares for the pivotal December polls, with stakeholder confidence in the electoral process hanging in the balance.
