EC does not determine outcome of election - Jean Mensa
Accra, Ghana - Ghana's Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, has made it clear that the power to choose the country's next president lies solely with its citizens, not with the Electoral Commission (EC).
At a press briefing in Accra on Friday, Mensa emphasized that the EC's role is not to determine the outcome of elections, but rather to facilitate the democratic process.
Mensa's statement underscores the importance of citizen participation in Ghana's democratic process.
As the country gears up for its presidential election on December 7, 2024, the EC's neutrality is crucial in ensuring a free and fair election.
“…We as a commission do not have the power to determine who wins elections. It is not in our control to determine the outcome of the election. The power indeed lies with the good people of our dear country.
“It is only the citizens and the citizens alone who can determine who should lead them, not the EC. It is the candidate who is given the power to lead them by the citizens who will be declared president of the Republic of Ghana by the EC come the 7th of December 2024,” she stated.
