Dumelo says sorry to Lydia Alhassan over late husband's comment
Accra, Ghana - Following condemnation from the Widows Association, John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has formally retracted and apologized for his unsubstantiated allegations against Lydia Alhassan, the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP.
Dumelo's apology stems from his previous suggestion that Alhassan was responsible for her late husband's death, which sparked widespread criticism.
He has since acknowledged the harm caused by his defamatory comments and pledged to maintain a respectful and issue-based campaign.
In a Facebook post, John Dumelo said, “I apologize and unreservedly retract my previous comments. I extend my sincere and unconditional apologies to Hon. Lydia Alhassan for my remarks during the Media General public engagement (Community Manifesto) concerning the death of her husband.”
“My comments were in response to personal attacks by supporters of the honourable minister, including false allegations regarding my mother’s death. However, I recognize that my reaction was inappropriate.”
