Member of Parliament for Bawku Central,  Mahama Ayariga has advised Northern Ghana's voters not to be deceived by assertions that former President John Mahama abandoned their region during his rule.

Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, Mr Ayariga underlined Mr Mahama's major contribution to the development of his home region.

He highlighted many projects carried out by Mr Mahama in Northern Ghana, demonstrating his dedication to the region.

"Do not be deceived that John Mahama did not do anything for the North and so the North should not vote for him," he told them.

He cited other projects, including the construction of highways from Bimbilla to Gushegu and Walewale to Gambaga, the phase two extension of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, the development of the Tamale International Airport, and the establishment of nursing training institutes.

He claimed that among the two northern presidential contenders, John Mahama is superior to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr Ayariga emphasized Mahama's successful stint as head of the economic management team, noting that Ghana saw the greatest economic growth rate of 14.5% in 2010.

However, Ayariga critiqued Dr. Bawumia's performance in the same position, stressing the problems that plagued the banking and financial sectors during his reign.

He emphasized that Mahama's track record indicated his ability to generate growth and economic stability.

The lawmaker urged voters to vote strongly for John Mahama in the next elections on December 7, 2024, in order to restore development and effective leadership to the Jubilee House.

He urged the crowd to support Mahama's candidacy for re-election and continue his efforts to improve Northern Ghana and the country as a whole.
