COCOBOD, Netherlands, Colombia Explore Cocoa Sector Partnerships

Accra, Ghana - 11 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's cocoa industry is set to receive a boost as the country seeks to deepen its cooperation with the Netherlands and Colombia.
The Dutch Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jeroen Verheul, met with the Management of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), led by its Chief Executive, Dr. Randy Abbey, to explore areas of cooperation in sustainable cocoa production, climate resilience, and mechanization.
The discussions also touched on the European Union's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its implications for Ghana's cocoa industry. Dr. Abbey emphasized the need to prioritize the welfare of cocoa farmers, calling for support from the Netherlands and other EU partners to improve their livelihoods.
In a separate meeting, the Colombian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Daniel Garcés Carabalí, explored the possibility of an exchange program between Ghanaian and Colombian female cocoa farmers. The program aims to promote knowledge-sharing on best practices in cocoa production, as well as coffee production.
Ghana is the world's second-largest cocoa producer, and the Netherlands is one of its largest trading partners in the cocoa sector. The country has been working to improve its cocoa production and processing capacity, with support from international partners like the Netherlands.
