Acknowledge NDC concerns about Peace treaty- MFWA
Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has stresed the need for authorities to resolve concerns made by political parties before signing a peace treaty.
This comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) decided not to commit to any peace treaty until specific conditions were met.
At a public forum in Accra, MFWA Executive Director Sulemana Braimah emphasized that while peace is necessary for good governance, it should not come at the expense of resolving legitimate ssues.
“Well, I think first of all peace is the number one thing that as a country we should yearn for. I think that no government can govern effectively if there is no peace. To be able to govern effectively, the country must be peaceful," he stated.
"And so peace for me is a fundamental prerequisite. And all political parties that are endeavouring to lead this country must commit."
“Of course, if the NDC has raised several issues to be addressed, it is important for stakeholders to look into them. We shouldn’t also say that because we want peace if things are not being done right at the end of the day we should just sign a peacepactt," he added.
