Accra, Ghana - 28 May, 2025 - A major breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), with a total of 2,637 containers traced, according to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

This development has sparked renewed public debate, given that the updated figure is more than double the initial number of 1,300 containers reported missing in March 2025.

Richmond Rockson, Head of Communications at the Ministry, explained on the Citi Breakfast Show that the investigation was launched due to conflicting figures provided to the Energy Minister. The probe revealed that 2,583 of the containers are currently in the possession of port authorities.

Rockson noted that the investigation is ongoing and hinted that further discoveries may be made, emphasizing the importance of the probe in reconciling discrepancies and providing an accurate account of ECG's inventory.

“The minister was receiving conflicting figures, so he ordered an investigation to determine the actual number of missing containers,” Rockson stated.

“The investigation revealed that, in total, 2,637 containers were involved. Out of this, 2,583 are now confirmed to be in the possession of port authorities.”

With the investigation yielding significant results, the Ministry remains optimistic that more containers may be located as the probe continues.
