202 Ghanaian Nationals Rescued from Human Trafficking Ring in Nigeria
Accra, Ghana – 24 July, 2025 – The Mahama administration has successfully repatriated 202 nationals who were victims of human trafficking and a scam syndicate operating in Nigeria. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed this in Parliament on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
The victims were lured by the Q-Net group, a notorious recruitment and trafficking network, with promises of lucrative job opportunities in European countries. Instead, they were held against their will in Nigeria and forced to participate in the scam.
The Ghanaian missions in Nigeria played a crucial role in rescuing and repatriating the victims. According to Minister Ablakwa, 78 victims were rescued through the Abuja Mission, while 124 were rescued through the Lagos Mission.
The Minister also raised concerns about an estimated 500 Ghanaian nationals who are reportedly being held against their will in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Diplomatic efforts are underway to identify and safely bring them back home.
Investigations have revealed that some of the ringleaders behind the Q-Net operations in Côte d'Ivoire are themselves Ghanaian nationals who were former victims of the same scam. They are now exploiting others in a desperate attempt to recover their personal losses.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with national and international security agencies, is intensifying efforts to dismantle the trafficking networks and implement lasting solutions to this deeply troubling trend. The government is committed to protecting its citizens and bringing perpetrators to justice.
The successful rescue and repatriation of the Ghanaian nationals is a testament to the government's commitment to combating human trafficking. However, the ongoing concerns in Côte d'Ivoire highlight the need for continued vigilance and cooperation with international partners to address this complex issue.
