Ya-Na Pays Historic Royal Visit to Gonja land
Gonja Land, Nothern Ghana - 17 Feb, 2025 - In a historic display of unity and mutual respect, the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, paid a royal visit to the King and Lord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewusoale I, at his palace on Sunday, February 16.
The move is seen as a significant move towards promoting peace and cooperation in the region.
Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II acknowledged the key role played by the Yagbon Kingdom in mediating peace within Dagbon, and expressed his support for President John Dramani Mahama's efforts to transform the nation.
Regional Minister for Savannah Salisu Be-Awuribe praised visit, noting that it has sparked a renewed desire for peace and unity among the two kingdoms.
However, the visit also shed light on the lingering issue of chieftaincy succession disputes, which continue to be a major source of conflict in Ghana's northern regions
