Accra, Ghana – 28 July, 2025 – The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has announced that criminal charges will soon be filed in several high-profile corruption cases involving prominent individuals, including Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and Abdul Wahab Hanan, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Buffer Stock Company.

The Police Criminal Investigations Department has completed its investigation and submitted the docket to the Attorney-General's office. Formal charges have been prepared and returned to the CID for arraignment. Akonta Mining Company, owned by Chairman Wontumi, has been embroiled in allegations of illegal mining activities and selling concessions to unauthorized miners.

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has also concluded its investigation into allegations involving Chairman Wontumi and the former Buffer Stock CEO. The results of the investigation will be announced soon, and charges may be filed.

The AG indicated that the National Investigations Bureau is finalizing reports on procurement irregularities related to contracts and infrastructure works linked to Ghana's hosting of the 13th edition of the tournament.

Investigations are ongoing, and the Attorney-General's office is expecting to receive the investigative report soon to begin filing charges in court.

Dr. Ayine emphasized the government's commitment to recovering stolen public funds and ensuring accountability in economic and procurement-related cases. He stressed that recovery and prosecution are not mutually exclusive, saying, "Recovering the loot and jailing looters are not mutually exclusive." The Attorney-General assured that every case will proceed once the necessary evidence has been compiled, warning that "we will not hesitate to proceed to court once we have built a solid docket".
