Pastor Charged with Publication of False News Over Shatta Wale Doom Prophecy
Accra, Ghana – 28 July, 2025 – Reverend Daniel Yaw Donkoh, a 46-year-old pastor, has been charged with publication of false news after allegedly prophesying the assassination of popular Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale. The pastor was arrested on Friday, July 25, 2025, following a viral video on TikTok where he claimed to have received two visions about the musician's demise.
In the video, Reverend Donkoh described two separate visions. The first vision showed Shatta Wale escaping an assassination attempt by armed men on foot, while the second vision depicted the musician being gunned down by three armed men in a Range Rover. The pastor urged Shatta Wale to engage in prayer and fasting to avert the potential calamity.
Shatta Wale responded strongly to the prophecy, accusing Reverend Donkoh of brainwashing people for financial gain. He dared the Ghana Police Service to arrest the pastor within a week, warning that if they failed to act, he would take matters into his own hands. Shatta Wale's mother, Elsie Avemegah, has also called for the pastor's arrest, expressing concern over the impact of the prophecy on her son.
Reverend Donkoh appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court on July 28, 2025, and pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000 with three sureties, one to be justified. The pastor is required to report to the police once every two weeks, and the case has been adjourned to August 27, 2025.
