Wontumi Fails to Meet Bail Conditions, Remains in EOCO Custody

Accra, Ghana - 28 May, 2025 - The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) will continue to hold NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, after he failed to meet the bail conditions set for his release.
Wontumi is being investigated for alleged financial transactions involving the Ghana Export-Import (EXIM) Bank.
Despite being granted bail in the sum of GH₵50 million with two sureties to be justified, his legal team is yet to fulfill the requirements.
Andy Appiah-Kubi, lead counsel for Wontumi, told Citi News that he is optimistic the bail conditions will be met soon.
“We are confident that by Thursday, May 29, all necessary requirements will be fulfilled,” he stated.
The development has sparked protests from NPP supporters and party figures, who converged on EOCO's headquarters in Accra to demand his release.
In a show of solidarity, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has offered to stand as one of the sureties for Wontumi.
