Health Ministry Denies Anne Sansa Daly's Swearing-in as Mahama Revokes Her Appointment

Accra, Ghana - 28 May, 2025 - The Ministry of Health has clarified the status of Anne Sansa Daly's appointment to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Board, denying recent media reports that she was sworn in as a member.

According to a statement released by the Ministry on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the reports were "inaccurate and misleading".

The Ministry explained that although Daly was initially appointed to the NHIA Board on May 19, 2025, her appointment was revoked just four days later, on May 23, 2025.

The letter revoking her appointment also named her replacement, Prof. Dr. Ernest Yorke, who is the Vice President of the Ghana Medical Association.

It is understood that the decision to revoke Daly's appointment was made after scrutiny over her medical credentials. Reports had alleged that Daly was not licensed to practice medicine in Ghana, sparking public scrutiny over her qualifications to serve on the NHIA Board.

The Ministry assured the public that all public appointments are handled with transparency and due process. "The Ministry wishes to categorically deny the allegations contained in the said publication and to present the facts," the statement read.

The swearing-in ceremony for the NHIA Board members was held on May 27, 2025, but Daly was not part of it. Instead, Prof. Dr. Ernest Yorke is expected to take up her position on the Board.

The development comes after President John Dramani Mahama revoked Daly's appointment, instructing the Minister of Health to facilitate the swearing-in of Prof. Yorke.

The NHIA Board, chaired by Lawrence Nii Okantey Adjetey, comprises various members, including Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams and Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu.
