Widow of JB Danquah Demands Justice Nine Years On

Accra, Ghana - 10 Feb, 2025 - Ivy Heward-Mills, the widow of former Ghanaian Member of Parliament(MP) Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, has publicly condemned the country's Parliament for failing to address her husband's unresolved murder.
In a series of Facebook posts, she criticized the Speaker, Majority Leader, Minority Leader, and all MPs for their silence on the case.
Ms. Heward-Mills pointed to the swift justice served in the case of British MP Jo Cox, who was murdered in 2016, as a stark contrast to the lack of progress in her husband's case. She also emphasized that her husband was a devoted father and a dedicated public servant who deserved justice.
The case remains unresolved nine years after Danquah-Adu was stabbed to death at his home in Accra.
Ms. Heward-Mills urged Ghana's lawmakers to take action and ensure that justice is served, warning that the lack of progress in the case sends a worrying message about the safety and security of the country's politicians.
''My husband was not merely a number on the records of the Parliament of Ghana— he was a man of principle, a legislator who fought for his people, a patriot who served his country in ministerial capacity; he believed in the sanctity of Parliament and the power of democratic governance. He was a devoted father of two little girls whom he was raising to be proud of his patriotism.''
"It’s been 9 years and 1 day since he was brutally murdered as a sitting MP. Parliament has carried on as if his life had been inconsequential. I dare say, his life was NOT inconsequential and what happened to him could have happened to any MP,'' she wrote on Facebook.
