We’ll show you where power lies, we’re not brothers – Dafeamekpor tells Afenyo-Markin

Ghana's opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to hold the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) accountable for alleged electoral malpractices. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi, warned that the NDC will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the country's democratic processes.

Dafeamekpor's comments came amidst controversy surrounding the re-collation and announcement of results for seven contested parliamentary seats, which were awarded to the NPP following a High Court ruling. The NDC has expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the process, alleging that the NPP employed unscrupulous tactics to secure the seats.

The opposition party has also criticized the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for making misleading claims to bolster his public statements. Dafeamekpor accused Afenyo-Markin of disrespecting the judicial process by holding a press conference to praise the outcomes of exercises still pending before the Supreme Court.

The NDC has promised to demonstrate "where true power lies" when they assume power, hinting at a possible shake-up in the country's political landscape.

“When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the judicial process? Today [December 21], Afenyo is holding a press conference, praising the outcomes of exercises that are still pending before the Supreme Court. And then he tells me to accept it in good faith because we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not,'' he stated.

“Some of these falsehoods, Afenyo should desist from this conduct. He must stop concocting stories to embellish his press conferences. They may hold government positions now, but the real power has slipped from their grasp and is transitioning to us [NDC].

“When we take over, we will demonstrate where true power lies,” Dafeamekpor said during an interview with TV3 on Saturday, 21 December, during the re-collation process at the EC’s Greater Accra regional office,'' he added.
