We will thoroughly examine summary of certified voter register and give our verdict soon - NDC
Accra, Ghana - Nov 13, 2024 - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to thoroughly examine the summary of the final certified voter register for the upcoming general elections, citing inconsistencies in the data provided by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer, NDC's Deputy Director of Elections and IT, expressed concerns over unexplained removal of polling stations and segregation of special voters from the main register.
NDC's Key Areas of Concern:
- Unexplained Removal of Polling Stations: NDC seeks clarification on the EC's decision to collapse certain polling stations without prior notice.
- Segregation of Special Voters: The EC's new approach to separating special voters from the main register has raised eyebrows, with the NDC questioning its legitimacy.
- Regional Summaries: The NDC has demanded regional summaries, as the national summary provided earlier lacks detailed information.
The NDC's scrutiny comes after the EC released the summary following the party's request for additional data beyond the final register shared with political parties.
In an intervew with Citi News, Dr. Tanko Computer assured that the NDC will review the register summary to ensure the EC addresses these discrepancies appropriately.
“We picked the register today with the summaries. So we are currently studying the register as a body and comparing that with their summaries. And then we also demanded their regional summaries because what they gave us was the national summary. It didn’t include the regional summaries.
“Well-intentioned, we will look at that. Their segregation of the special voters from the main register. I mean, this is an innovation they are just creating. Their statement indicated that they have collapsed some polling stations, which of course we are not aware.
“This is a new thing they have done. We have studied it. We will look at it. And then we think we will make our verdict clearer very soon.”
