The EC has nothing to hide, we are one of best on the continent - Bossman Asare
Accra, Ghana - Nov 15, 2024 - The Electoral Commission of Ghana is facing skepticism from citizens ahead of the December 7 general elections, with many doubting its impartiality and independence. However, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the EC, insists that these concerns are unfounded and that the Commission is committed to delivering credible and transparent elections.
According to Dr. Asare, Ghana's electoral process is one of the best on the continent, with advanced biometric systems, rigorous training for poll staff, and strengthened oversight mechanisms in place.
The EC has taken extensive measures to enhance the credibility of the electoral process, and Dr. Asare encourages the public to focus on the Commission's track record of organizing successful elections.
Some of the key measures implemented by the EC include:
- Advanced Biometric Systems: To ensure accurate voter verification and prevent electoral fraud.
- Rigorous Training for Poll Staff: To ensure that polling station staff are equipped to handle the electoral process efficiently and effectively.
- Strengthened Oversight Mechanisms: To provide an additional layer of transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
Dr. Asare also referenced the EC's public meeting on forensic audit, which was televised nationally, to demonstrate the Commission's commitment to transparency.
“You talk about the quality of elections in Africa, Ghana is one of the best in the continent. Ghana is one of the best in the business.
“So regarding this forensic audit issue you just mentioned, you remember as soon as we had a meeting publicly, which was televised nationally, all Ghanaians saw that the EC had nothing to hide,'' he stated.
