Election prophecies could jeopardize national security- Peace Council
Accra, Ghana - The National Peace Council (NPC) has urged pastors to exercise caution when making election-related prophecies, warning that such statements could escalate political tensions and potentially lead to violence in the lead-up to this year's elections.
Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the NPC, emphasized that prophecies and utterances from pastors have the potential to negatively impact the country's peace and security.
He encouraged religious leaders to consider the consequences of their words and promote peaceful coexistence during this critical period.
Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi was addressing a gathering of prophets in Accra, hosted by the National Peace Council, under the theme "Prophets and Peaceful Elections."
During the event, he emphasized the crucial role of the church in fostering unity and national cohesion, urging church leaders to prioritize promoting peace and togetherness.
“Religious utterances can lead to increased tension among different groups, it can also become a major source of human rights violation, breakdown in social cohesion and the stability of a nation.
“These unfortunate utterances often lead to violence and displacement of people, and can have long-lasting effects on societies,” he added
“Everybody is looking up to the church. When God places us in leadership positions, we must conduct ourselves in a manner that not only gives glory to God, but also brings people together,” he said.
The NPC's warning comes as Ghana prepares for a pivotal election, and the council seeks to prevent any actions that could undermine the country's stability and democratic process.
