Accra, Ghana - 01 Feb, 2025 - Kofi Adams, Ghana's Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, has made a commitment to improve the lives of retired footballers, many of whom face financial and health difficulties.

During his vetting by the Appointments Committee, Adams expressed concern about the welfare of retired sports professionals and outlined plans to provide them with structured support.

As part of his proposal, Adams suggested introducing a pension scheme for active sportsmen, which would provide a safety net for them when they retire. He also promised to develop a plan to support those who have already retired from football.

“We will encourage active sportsmen to contribute to a pension scheme. If I am approved, we will come out with modalities to see what we can do for those who have retiredm'' he stated.

“I’m aware of the GHC468 million debt that must be dealt with. We will strategise to ensure that the National Sports Authority (NSA) plays its role as regards Black Stars funding to resolve the issues,'' he added.
