Kumasi, Ghana - 04 Feb, 2025 - Asante Kotoko SC has suspended all senior team football activities indefinitely, following the tragic death of supporter Francis Yaw 'Pooley' Frimpong at Nana Koramansah Park on Sunday Feb 2, 2025, over a Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC.

In a statement, the club condemned the "senseless and heinous" act, which has left the Kotoko fraternity devastated.

“Asante Kotoko will not resume footballing duties until justice is served, and concrete steps are taken to prevent such barbaric acts from ever happening again,” the club firmly stated.

The club praised the Ghana Police Service for their swift action, which led to the arrest of three suspects. Asante Kotoko assured their fans that they will cooperate fully with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.

In a message of unity, the club called on the Ghanaian football community to come together to end hooliganism in the domestic league. They also expressed appreciation for the support from rival club Accra Hearts of Oak.

“As a club, we are determined to ensure that this painful moment is a turning point for Ghanaian football. It is time to end the cycle of violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness that threaten the integrity of our game,” portions of the statement read.

According to the statement, Asante Kotoko is working closely with the family of the late Francis Yaw Frimpong and will provide details of his funeral arrangements soon. The club urged all football lovers to stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.
