We Want an Indigene as Tema Mayor, not Ebi Bright - Angry Youth to Mahama

Tema, Greater Accra, Region, Ghana - 14 April, 2025 - A group of youths from Tema have taken to the streets, protesting outside the Tema Metropolitan Assembly premises to demand that President John Dramani Mahama appoints a local resident as the city's next mayor.

The protesters, armed with burning tires and rhythmic drumbeats, are vehemently opposed to reports suggesting Ebi Bright is being considered for the position, despite not being part of the selection process.

Tema Youths Reject Ebi Bright's Mayoral Bid

Dora Sappor, a spokesperson for the concerned youth, expressed their discontent, stating, “We are here with a heavy heart to register our displeasure. We are hearing that Ebi Bright is to be made the Mayor of Tema, but that is not going to happen. She was not even part of the whole process, so why are they bringing her to be the mayor? This is something we will not understand. We want an indigene''

The group insists that a local resident should be appointed to the role, citing concerns about representation and community involvement.

''This is the only demand of the youth of Tema East and the traditional leaders. His Excellency should listen to us and hear our plea. As for that Ebi Bright, she's not part of the whole thing at all,'' she added.
