‘We Need a Pair of Clean Hands’: Kwabena Agyepong Joins NPP Presidential Primaries
Accra, Ghana – 29 July, 2025 – Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the party's 2026 presidential primaries. Agyepong made the announcement on Tuesday, July 29, just hours after the NPP opened nominations for the flagbearer position.
The event was attended by several former NPP MPs, including Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, indicating growing support for Agyepong's candidacy. His campaign is being framed as a reformist agenda, with a focus on discipline, integrity, and a return to the party's founding values.
In his declaration speech, Agyepong positioned himself as the unifying candidate the party needs to win the 2028 general elections. He emphasized that his candidacy will bring unity and integrity to the NPP, which he believes is essential for the party's success. Agyepong urged party delegates to resist inducements and reject the growing culture of monetization in internal party contests.
"We need a pair of clean hands, a clear mind, and a compassionate heart to lead our nation and the party," Agyepong stated. "I, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, stand ready to work with you, ready to rebuild, ready to restore hope for our party and every Ghanaian." His campaign promises to focus on returning the party to its founding values of sacrifice, discipline, and public service.
Agyepong also extended an invitation to former presidential hopeful Alan Kyerematen to return to the NPP, emphasizing that the party was founded on "sacrifice, not privilege."
