We Are Carrying Out a Comprehensive Review of Passport Fees - Ablakwa

Lagos, Nigeria - 06 April, 2025 - Ghana's passport acquisition has plummeted by 20,000 year-on-year after a fee increment enforced by the previous government, with the current Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa criticizing the decision as harsh on citizens both at home and abroad.

Ablakwa has promised to reduce passport costs for Ghanaians living abroad, addressing concerns raised by hundreds of citizens in Lagos, Nigeria.

“We are carrying out a comprehensive review of the Fees and Charges Act, and your concerns about passport fees will be factored in,” he said.

Background

The expedited application fees are GHC 700 for a 32-page booklet and GHC 800 for a 48-page booklet. This fee hike was proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to make passport acquisition more sustainable for the state.
