Sapeiman Counterfeit Ring: It's Only a Matter of Time Before 'Alhaji' is Caught - Jakpa

Accra, Ghana - 06 April, 2025 - A massive manhunt is underway for the alleged kingpin of a sophisticated counterfeit syndicate busted in Sapeiman, a suburb of Accra, in February.
The operation, which led to the discovery of ten 40-foot containers filled with counterfeit Ghana cedi and US dollar notes, has left authorities stunned.
Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, revealed that the evidence retrieved from the site is overwhelming, but the main suspect, identified as "Alhaji," remains at large.
The counterfeit ring, believed to be highly organized, operated from an unassuming building in the area, where stacks of fake notes in multiple currencies and denominations were found. Investigators also discovered fake gold bars and genuine Bank of Ghana (BoG) money boxes, raising questions about how they were obtained.
Jakpa assured that National Security operatives are actively tracking Alhaji's movements, with solid evidence connecting him to the crime scene and broader network of illegal activities.
“We have solid evidence connecting Alhaji to the crime scene and to the broader network of illegal activities,” Mr. Jakpa said. “We are confident that it is only a matter of time before he is apprehended.”
The operation has left many questions unanswered, including how the syndicate managed to obtain genuine BoG property and how long the counterfeit ring had been operating.
