WAEC Drops Bombshell: 177 Candidates' BECE Results Cancelled

Accra,Ghana – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the provisional results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates, with a significant number of candidates facing sanctions. Specifically, 177 candidates have had their entire results cancelled, and 718 others have had their results cancelled in specific subjects.

According to WAEC, 1,240 candidates have had their subject results withheld, and 93 candidates have had their entire results withheld. The subject results of some candidates from 119 schools have been cancelled, and 87 schools have had their subject results withheld for further scrutiny.

The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations by September 6, 2025. WAEC has cautioned candidates and stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who may promise to upgrade results for a fee.

Statistics

A total of 603,328 candidates, comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 participating schools, sat the examination. WAEC has made the results available on its official website, and schools will receive the results of their candidates through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education.

Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld can visit the WAEC website for details and reasons for the cancellation or withholding. Heads of schools and proprietors can also access the results status of their candidates using their results listing logins.

WAEC has assured candidates that its results are secured and can be authenticated. The council in a statement said it has taken steps to ensure the integrity of the examination process and will continue to investigate cases of irregularity.
