VP Opoku-Agyemang Hospitalized After Sudden Illness

Jubilee House, Accra, Ghana - 30 March, 2025 - Ghana's Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, was admitted the University of Ghana Medical Centre on Saturday after falling ill on Friday, March 28, 2025.

According to a statement from the Presidency, she received treatment for a sudden illness that occurred after work.

The 73-year-old who made history by becoming the first female Vice President of Ghana is expected to seek further medical care abroad, based on expert medical opinion, according to the Presidency. 

Professor Opoku-Agyemang has had a distinguished career in academia and politics.

Before becoming Vice President, she served as Minister for Education from 2013 to 2017 and was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.

The Presidency has wished her a speedy recovery, and further updates on her condition are awaited.
