Two Mpox Cases Confirmed in Accra, Ghana Health Service Issues Alert

Accra, Ghaan - 15 May, 2025 - Two cases of Mpox have been confirmed in the Accra Metropolitan Area, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced.

According to the GHS, the affected individuals are receiving appropriate care and guidance.

The public is being advised to remain vigilant and practice good hygiene to reduce the risk of transmission.

Mpox is a viral disease that can be spread through close contact with an infected person or animal, or contaminated materials. Symptoms of the disease include a rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, and fatigue.

The GHS in a statement, has reassured the public that Ghana's public health system is equipped to manage the situation and prevent a larger outbreak. "We have the capacity and the expertise to manage this situation and prevent a larger outbreak," said Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service.
