Two Men Sentenced to 5 Years for Stealing Loaded Firearm from Immigration Officer in Walewale

Walewale, North East Region - 24 May, 2025 - Two individuals, Mustapha Basit (18) and Baba Rasid (22), have been sentenced to five years in prison with hard labor by the Walewale Circuit Court for stealing a loaded firearm and ammunition belonging to an immigration officer.
The conviction, confirmed by the Ghana Police Service on May 23, 2025, highlights the authorities' commitment to maintaining law and order.
The duo was charged with conspiracy to steal and stealing after they broke into the immigration officer's room on May 17, 2025, and stole a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, along with two CZ rifle magazines loaded with 30 rounds each.
Upon their guilty plea before Justice Francis Asobayeri on May 22, 2025, the court convicted and sentenced them to five years' imprisonment each.
The Ghana Police Service is now working to transport the convicts to the designated prison facilities to serve their sentences.
