There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged - EC
Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe is Director of Training at Ghana's Electoral Commission.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has vehemently denied allegations of collusion with any political party to manipulate the upcoming December 7 general elections.

These allegations were recently made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which accused the EC of working with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence election outcomes in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at a security symposium held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, the EC's Head of Training, dismissed the claims as baseless. He emphasized that Ghana's electoral system is designed to prevent any form of rigging, ensuring the integrity and transparency of the process.

Dr. Quaicoe stressed that rigging an election in Ghana is impossible, as it would require the collaboration of all stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission, party agents, and the general public. He acknowledged that while irregularities and fraudulent activities may occur, the electoral system is robust enough to prevent any large-scale manipulation.

“There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged. There is no way. It can only be done with the collaboration of all stakeholders. Because at any point in time, the people are there. That will mean the Electoral Commission will be compromised and the party agents themselves will be compromised,'' he stated.

“Because when they count, and it is 10, they say it is 100, and everybody agrees. It is not possible. So, there can be irregularities, there can be fraudulent activities, but rigging an election is impossible in Ghana,'' he added.
