‘The digital gate didn’t open for the digital man’ - Mahama takes aim at Bawumia's digitalisation record
Ghana's former President John Mahama has launched a scathing attack on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of misleading Ghanaians about his contributions to the country's digitalization efforts.
Speaking during his tour of the Ashanti Region, Mahama alleged that Bawumia's claim that the Ghana Card allows individuals to travel overseas was deceptive.
He referenced the commissioning of the E-Gates at Kotoka International Airport, where Bawumia reportedly experienced a delay when attempting to use his passport on the machine.
Mahama mocked Bawumia, saying, "The digital gate didn't open for the digital man." He added, "You can do all the propaganda with digitalization you like, but if the fundamentals of your digitalization are weak, the digital gate will expose you."
“I will use his own words and say that ‘You can do all the propaganda with digitalisation you like, but if the fundamentals of your digitalisation are weak, the digital gate will expose you,'' he added.
Bawumia had commissioned the E-Gates, a state-of-the-art system accessible via the Ghana Card on Dec 3, aimed at streamlining the immigration process for travelers.
However, Mahama's criticism raises questions about the credibility of Bawumia's digitalization agenda.
