NAPO rallies Nursing students behind NPP's Agenda 111
Accra, Ghana - Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate, has appealed to nursing students to back the NPP in the upcoming elections, stressing the importance of their votes in securing key policies like Agenda 111, the nationwide hospital project.
Speaking at the Pantan Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Accra, Dr. Prempeh emphasized the NPP's commitment to nursing students' welfare, citing the restoration of trainee allowances as a key example.
He contrasted this with the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) cancellation of allowances during former President John Dramani Mahama's tenure, which allegedly caused significant hardships for students.
Dr. Prempeh framed the 2024 elections as a choice between stability and risk, urging students to prevent Mahama's return to power. He highlighted Dr. Bawumia's accountability and vision for Ghana's future, warning that Mahama's leadership could lead to harsher policies and allowance cuts.
The NPP vice presidential candidate also criticized the NDC's handling of nursing institution funds, revealing a two-year backlog in feeding grant arrears inherited from the Mahama administration. He attributed this to the NDC's "incompetence" in managing essential services.
“Like their colleagues at Korle Bu, they recognize the risk in returning to the leadership of a man who once cancelled their allowances and vowed not to restore them, even if it cost him the presidency.
“The 2024 elections, they believe, are about securing Ghana’s future. That is why they will place their trust in Dr. Bawumia, who will, after four years, return to account for his actions and decisions. In contrast, they fear a leader who will serve only four years and be free from accountability, could once again cut their allowances and impose harsher policies. These students are actively campaigning and he believes it will translate into votes for the NPP on December 7,'' he added.
Joining Dr. Prempeh at the event, Madina's NPP parliamentary candidate Robert Lamptey and Municipal Chief Executive Jennifer Dede Adjabeng echoed his sentiments, urging students to support the NPP for continuity in policies benefiting the nursing community and Ghana's healthcare goals.
