''No Ghana Card, No National Service'' - NSA Introduces New Measure to Eliminate Ghost Names

Accra, Ghana - 14 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's National Service Authority (NSA) has introduced a stringent new measure to eliminate "ghost names" by allowing only those with a valid Ghana Card to be eligible for national service registration.
The new measure, announced by NSA Director General Felix Gyamfi announced at a press conference on Thursday Feb 13, 2024, that the new measure is part of efforts to tackle corruption and abuse of the national service system which has seen thousands of fake names added to the payroll.
A recent headcount uncovered over 81,885 suspected ghost names, sparking widespread outrage.
Mr Gyamfi attributed the problem to a "leadership failure" by the previous management, which failed to implement necessary checks and policies.
“If you do not have a valid Ghana card ID, you will not be allowed into our system,'' he stated.
“If you are a prospective graduate and you do not have a valid Ghana Card to register, you will not be allowed to do national service. So, these are some of the pathways to take away the ghost names.”
“This was a leadership problem. This was a situation where the checks that were put in place to save the taxpayers money was supposed to have kicked in and it didn’t kick in,'' he added.
