Release BECE Results Early to Ease Student Anxiety - Education Minister to WAEC
Accra, Ghana - 26 June, 2025 - The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to expedite the release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.
Speaking at the 2025 West African Examination Council Distinction Awards Ceremony on June 26, the Minister emphasized the importance of timely results to alleviate anxiety among students and the general public.
While commending WAEC and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their efforts in conducting the examinations successfully, Haruna Iddrisu stressed that the early release of results would bring relief to anxious students.
“Let me commend you for a very successful BECE examination. What we expect from you now is the early, timely release of the results so that anxiety and anxiousness in the students will go down,” he said.
In a separate development, the Minister announced the government's plans to introduce a new legislative framework to guide the awarding of scholarships in the country. The Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill, which is expected to be introduced to Parliament soon, aims to address concerns of nepotism associated with scholarship awards. The bill is part of President John Dramani Mahama's promise to Ghanaians to ensure transparency in the awarding of scholarships.
“Within the few weeks to come, I will introduce the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, as he promised Ghanaians to deal with the issue of nepotism that was associated with the award of scholarships,” he disclosed.
Haruna Iddrisu has called on the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, to support the bill when it is presented before the House. The proposed legislation is expected to bring much-needed reform to the scholarship award process, ensuring that deserving students receive support based on merit rather than other considerations.
