Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi Charged Over Failed Sky Train Project
Court to Determine Fate of Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi Over $2m Sky Train Payment

Accra, Ghana - 13 May, 2025 - Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chair of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has been charged with conspiracy to cause financial loss to the state.

The charges stem from a 2019 payment of $2 million to Africa Investor Holdings Limited for an urban Sky Train project in Accra that never materialized.

According to court documents, the payment was made without proper board approval, violating standard procedure. Investigators claim that Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi approved the transfer based on a recommendation from then-GIIF Chief Executive, Solomon Asamoah, but neither individual can account for the missing funds.

The Sky Train project aimed to reduce traffic congestion in Accra but failed to take off despite the significant upfront payment. Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi's recent arrest in connection with the failed contract has sparked further investigation into the matter.
