Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi admitted that $2 million was paid for no work done - Dr Ayine

Accra, Ghana - 03 March, 2025 - Ghana's Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has publicly cofirmed and justified his decision to authorize the arrest of Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on February 23, 2025, as part of an investigation into financial irregularities during his tenure at the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
Dr. Ayine confirmed the arrest during a media interview on March 3, stating,“Yes, I did.”
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi's arrest unfolded with him being escorted from his home to the National Intelligence Bureau's (NIB) headquarters, and later to their Kawukudi offices in Accra, by a group of agents.
The investigation revolves around a questionable $2 million transaction, with no evident work done to justify the payment. While being questioned, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi acknowledged the irregularity, according to Dr. Ayine.
“Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested and questioned, and he did admit that the $2 million was paid for no work done.”
The Attorney General has pledged to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the payment and identifying all parties involved.
“We’re still investigating the circumstances of the payment and those who were involved,” Dr. Ayine added.
