President Mahama Emotionally Devastated by Tragic Helicopter Crash

Accra, Ghana – 7 August, 2025 –Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is emotionally devastated by the recent helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent individuals, including two cabinet ministers ; Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Describing the incident as one of the most difficult moments in the administration's recent history, Iddrisu stated that the President is "emotionally down" and in need of divine strength to cope with the loss.

The devastating military helicopter crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

In response to the tragedy, President Mahama has suspended all scheduled activities for the rest of the week and declared a three-day national mourning period, starting Thursday, August 7, 2025.The president has also directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is leading a government delegation to officially convey condolences to the bereaved families, coordinated by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah. The delegation includes military leadership and key state officials.
