President Akufo-Addo to commission Flower Pot Interchange on Nov 19
Accra, Ghana - Nov 10, 2024 - President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to commission the highly anticipated Flower Pot interchange on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, as announced by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Jubilee House.
This milestone project aims to significantly improve traffic connectivity between the north and south of the motorway, easing travel times for residents in areas such as Cantonments, Burma Camp, East Legon, Spintex, and Tema.
Key Features of the Flower Pot Interchange
- 802-meter dual carriageway for the viaduct with asphaltic concrete surfacing
- 140-meter ramp from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills
- 80-meter ramp from the viaduct onto the motorway towards Tema
- New road through the old tunnel at East Legon
- Extra 200 meters of road connecting Cantonments from the Giffard Road Interchange
- Redesigned Flower Pot roundabout and its approaches
- Pedestrian walkways on each side of the flyover
- Road furniture including streetlights, road markings, and traffic signals
The project, which commenced on March 7, 2017, was contracted to China Railway No. 5 Engineering Gh. Ltd, with Deoke Consult Ltd serving as the consultant. The contract duration was 93 months, and it was funded by Afrexim Bank and the Government of Ghana.
This development is part of the government's efforts to enhance the country's road infrastructure, following the successful completion of other projects like the Tamale Interchange.
