Gregory Afoko's Fate Hangs in Balance as Murder Retrial is Adjourned to April 7

Accra, Ghana - 06 March, 2025 -  A High Court in Ghana's capital, Accra, has postponed the retrial of Gregory Afoko, accused of murdering a former regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The case, which has been ongoing for nearly a decade, was adjourned to April 7, 2025, at the request of the prosecution.

Afoko, who is out on bail, is alleged to have orchestrated a fatal acid attack on Adams Mahama in 2015.

His co-accused, Asabke Alangdi, was convicted of conspiracy last year, but Afoko was acquitted of murder and conspiracy charges.

However, the court ordered a retrial, citing unresolved issues.

Afoko's bail, set at 500,000 Ghanaian cedis (approximately £50,000), was granted after two previous unsuccessful applications.

The case has sparked widespread interest in Ghana, with many calling for justice for the victim's family.
