Police Nab Suspect in Fake Robbery and Kidnapping Case; Staged Crime Unraveled

Central Region,Ghana – The Ghana Police Service's Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Benjamin Owusu, for faking a robbery and kidnapping incident in Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City, Gomoa Nyanyano, in the Central Region. The arrest was made on September 24, 2025, at the suspect's hideout in Akatamanso in the Ashanti Region.

The incident began on September 3, 2025, at about 0300 hours when the Millennium City District Police Command received a report from a complainant who claimed to have received a text message indicating he was under a robbery attack at his residence. Following the report, police visited the scene but did not find the suspect in the house.

However, they discovered blood stains on the floor of the suspect's bedroom, suggesting possible harm.

Further investigations revealed that Benjamin Owusu had staged the crime. The suspect had abandoned the SIM card used to send the text message to the complainant but later replaced the old SIM card and made phone calls from a specific location at Elubo in the Western Region on September 5, 2025. Forensic analysis of the blood stains found in the bedroom proved negative for human blood after a DNA examination.

According to police intelligence gathered by a dedicated team of investigators, Benjamin Owusu intentionally killed a duck and stained his bedroom floor with its blood to stage the kidnapping. He claimed he could not account for the money in his custody belonging to his employer. The suspect will be put before court to face justice after completion of investigations.

DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, commended all stakeholders who assisted in the arrest of suspect Benjamin Owusu.

The police also cautioned persons with intentions to desist from such actions as they will face the full rigors of the law if arrested.
