CETAG to call off nationwide strike after meeting with Labour Minister
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) leadership has decided to call off the nationwide strike.
This decision was made during a meeting with the Ministry of Labour and Employment Relations (MLER) and the Fair Wages Commission on Monday August 19, 2024.
The meeting attempted to address the urgent issues of CETAG members, who have been on strike for the past two months, resulting in a complete halt in academic operations at all 46 Colleges of Education around the country.
The Association expects to resume academic activities later this week following a council meeting that has yet to be held.
Additionally, salaries for July and August 2024 are set to be paid before the end of this month.
Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour - Awuah represented the government in the meeting and appended his signature to the document.
"I am appending my signature to signify the fact that I am committed or the government team is committed to that which we have agreed to in this document," he said.
On his part, the leader of the CETAG team at the meeting assured the media of their commitment to the agreement.
"On behalf of over 2,000 members of CETAG I also want to assure the media and all that are here that CETAG is also committed to what has been put on this paper and therefore I wish to sign."
