Police Deployed to Odorgonno SHS Following Student Protest Over Faulty Traffic Lights

Accra, Ghana - 25 Feb, 2025 - A protest by students at Odorgonno Senior High School in Accra on Monday has led to the deployment of police officers to assist with road crossings.
The students were demonstrating against the persistent malfunction of traffic lights near the school, which has created significant safety concerns.
The protest, which briefly disrupted traffic, highlighted the dangers posed by speeding vehicles at the school's entrance. Students expressed frustration over the non-functional signals, citing previous accidents, including the tragic death of a staff member.
Despite government assurances, the traffic lights remain unfixed, raising serious safety concerns among students and staff. Students say the faulty lights have resulted in multiple near-misses, making it hazardous to cross the road.
Protesters called on authorities to take swift action to fix the traffic lights and ensure the safety of all road users in the area. The deployment of police officers is a temporary measure to mitigate the risks, but students and staff are demanding a permanent solution to the problem.
