Jubilee House,Accra ,September 1,2025 - The Article 146 Committee, tasked with investigating petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has submitted its first report to President John Mahama. Led by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, the committee conducted its work in camera, as required by Article 146(7) and (8) of the Constitution, and has recommended on the first petition after hearing evidence from 13 witnesses for the petitioner and 12 witnesses for the Chief Justice, including experts.

The committee received around 10,000 pages of documentary exhibits from both sides. Although the report's details remain undisclosed, this development marks a significant step in the process, which could potentially lead to further investigations or impeachment proceedings. The committee will continue to work on the second and third petitions, submitting reports in due time.

The Petitions
Three petitions were submitted to the President, alleging misconduct and incompetence against Chief Justice Torkornoo. The petitions claim she has violated critical provisions of the Constitution and failed to uphold the high standards of judicial conduct required for her role.
