Mahama Tasks Ato Forson to Plug $156m Funding Gap Amid USAID Suspension

Accra, Ghana - 11 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has ordered emergency measures to address a critical funding shortfall following the suspension of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programme which has left a gaping hole estimated at $156 million in the country's healthcare budget.
According to a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on February 11, a significant portion of the deficit, $78.2 million, threatens essential services, including malaria prevention, maternal and child healthcare, and HIV/AIDS treatment.
Hence, the President has tasked Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson with finding swift solutions for the $156m funding gap.
