Ofosu Ampofo slams Bawumia's Economic Policies as "Weapons of Mass Destruction"
Volta Region, Ghana - Nov 6, 2024 - Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has launched a scathing attack on the government's economic policies, likening them to "weapons of mass destruction" that have devastated the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
Speaking during a campaign tour in the Volta Region alongside NDC's vice-presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ofosu Ampofo alleged that President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's economic policies have destroyed banks, community banks, and microfinance companies, resulting in significant job losses.
Economic Hardships
Ofosu Ampofo cited the collapse of Paa Kwasi's bank, which provided services to women and entrepreneurs, and the loss of 3,000 jobs at Groupe Nduom as examples of the government's economic mismanagement. He argued that these policies have severely impacted the livelihoods of Ghanaians, undermining trust in the government's ability to deliver on promises.
“President Akufo-Addo has become a weapon of mass destruction. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s economic policies have now become weapons of mass destruction, resulting in several fatalities.
“They have destroyed banks, community banks, the small microfinance companies have all been destroyed. They have also destroyed Paa Kwasi’s bank, which was providing services to women and people who want to be in the industry.
“They have thrown away 3,000 of the Groupe Nduom. That is why Bawumia’s economic policies are weapons of mass destruction and we are not going to allow him to come and lie to Ghanaians again,” he stated.
Call to Action
The former NDC chairman urged voters to support the NDC in the upcoming elections, promising that an NDC administration would prioritize policies to improve economic conditions for all Ghanaians. He emphasized that the election is about trust in leadership and challenged Dr. Bawumia to account for his economic management record.
”Election is about trust in leadership and the person we can trust to deliver on promises…Today he [Dr Bawumia] has run from the Economic Management Team and he is talking about digitization and yesterday he had the guts to say that President Mahama should not come close to the presidency.
Challenge to Dr. Bawumia
Ofosu Ampofo questioned Dr. Bawumia's credentials on digitization, pointing out that the fibre optics and Accra digital centre were established under former President John Dramani Mahama's administration.
"“I want to tell Dr Bauwmia that the backbones, the fibre optics and the Accra digital centre were put in place by John Dramani Mahama. What have you put in place?”, he asked, highlighting the need for tangible economic achievements.
