CLOGSAG to Strike Over Government's Refusal to Remove Births and Deaths Registrar

Accra, Ghana - 19 Feb, 2025 - A nationwide strike by local government workers in Ghana is imminent, as the Civil Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has called on its members to take industrial action on February 20, 2025, in protest against the government's decision to retain Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

CLOGSAG's concerns were heightened after Mr. Botchway participated in a budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on Monday, February 17, 2025, indicating that he remains in his role.

In a statement, CLOGSAG stated that the strike will proceed as scheduled unless the government takes immediate action to remove Mr. Botchway from office.
