NPP Youth Activist Adenta Kumi Released After Being Charged With Publishing False News

Accra, Ghana - 24 May, 2025 - New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth activist Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, has been released from National Investigations Bureau (NIB) custody after being charged with publishing false news.

His arrest on May 23, 2025, sparked controversy, with supporters claiming it was politically motivated.

The charges stem from comments Kumi made on his X account and during a radio interview regarding a petition he submitted to the President, calling for the dissolution of the committee investigating the Chief Justice.

Kumi's petition alleged misconduct by judiciary members, citing a meeting between Justices Pwamang, Adibu-Asiedu, and Yonni Kulendi with counsel Thaddeus Sory, which Kumi claimed could compromise the inquiry's integrity.

High-level talks between security officials and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin led to Kumi's release.
